Parents, do you ever get amd at today's tv shows and how they portray "everyday" life?

Why are there so few single parent households in the "just getting by" income tv shows nowdays? My son can't understand why everyone lives in houses and he doesn't (as far as his viewing shows) or why they have things he doesn't. I don't recall many shows in the past decade that portrayed a "normal" living situtation for families. I agree that the show might not be that popular, but in hte past there have been shows (the PJ's, Punky Brewster, etc) that has shown a touch of reality. Are we setting our kids up to feel inferior or are we perpetutating the have versus have nots?
