Why aren't skittles halal?

i don't mean to gloat, but a HUGE advantage of living in an islamic country is that, almost everything is halal(except stuff like wine and pork, of course), including skittles, every other candy or chocolate imagineable, and even all the US fast food chains..i guess you might have to resort to other alternatives..: (
