I want to learn how to speak? Where do i start?

I'm not mute, but i've hardle ever spoken due to extreme shyness. I want to speak clearly, without mumbling, and to get peoples attention when I talk. What should I do first? Talk to a mirror? Practice vowel sounds? Please help!
